I recently straightened my hair and had an identity crisis. And, no, it wasn’t because I realized how small my head was. It was because my naturally curly hair - my absolute favorite feature - isn’t exactly “me.”

My curls don’t really fit my personality. When people think of curls, they imagine someone bouncy, go-with-the-flow, free-spirited, and a bit unpredictable. And, truthfully, those might be the last words anyone would use to describe me.

I’m practical, detail-oriented, a perfectionist, and, yes, a chronic over thinker. My curls might not match my personality, but they’re still a part of me — a part that needs a meticulous, 10-step-upside-down-oil-diffusing routine. A part that sleeps with three satin scrunchies secured under two satin bonnets lying on one satin pillow case.

Just as my personality and curls define who I am, my work is a result of the harmony between my precision and out-of-the-box thinking. This duality is what allows me to create award-winning campaigns and constantly strive to be better as an art director.
